Might be an awful question to ask, but I am wondering how you go about managing your income. Whether modest, to low, to a toonie jar, how do you go about planning for your expenses?

I used to use finance tracking apps, but these days I make my own table on my Notes app. After the categories for set monthly expenses, I write down the flexible expenses and luxury expenses. I put in the maximum budget for those categories and save the rest.

This is how I do it. It's done in Open Office and I make them quarterly. I get paid twice a month, so I have 6 of them ready to go. I do it that way, so I can plan the near future better. Having everything right there, so I can see it, helps with my budgeting. You can also take it further and add up the total amounts left per pay period (bottom right cell), so you can determine how much to save and how much to play with each pay period.
PAY DATE AMT PAID AMT. PAID Bill Name Bill Amt DATE DUE XXXX $1.00 2nd XXXX $1.00 5th XXXX $1.00 5th XXXX $1.00 2nd XXXX $1.00 2nd XXXX $1.00 5th Total Bills $ LEFT

Kilroy, that looks great! I've been using Mint, and while it's a decent app for being free, I'm starting to feel like I want to design my own tables and categories. Just having more control, you know? I also hear people mention that I should go as detailed as possible for better tracking and budgeting. I need to work hard on this spreadsheet!
